Here's a beautiful emerald from the Panjshir Valley in Afghanistan that gives you an excellent view of its fascinating "fingerprints," eye-visible inclusions often affectionately referred to as "jardin" - the French word for "garden."
These tiny imperfections within Panjshir emeralds are like hidden gardens, waiting to be discovered and explored by those lucky enough to own them. They add a sense of mystery and wonder to these precious gems as if imbued with a secret world of beauty and enchantment. And when the light catches these jardin inclusions just so, they shimmer and sparkle, creating a fantastical display that captures the imagination.
The gem, totaling 5.15 carats, features a rich green color and intense saturation known to emeralds from the region, with only minor oil treatment to enhance its clarity, a common and acceptable practice in the trade.

Gemologist's Comments on Origin: Panjshir emeralds, hailing from the verdant valleys of Afghanistan's majestic Panjshir Valley, captivate the discerning eye with their ineffable allure.
Having been mined for centuries, these emeralds are renowned for their vibrant green color, which is said to be the result of the unique geologic conditions of the valley. Treatments: Indications of minor clarity enhancement with oil
Gemologist's Comments on Treatments: As a business policy, we don't stock heated, treated, or enhanced gemstones. However, emeralds invariably come into contact with oil during their life, from mining to cutting/polishing to selling. This is because oil is commonly used as a lubricant for cleaning/storing rough emeralds and facilitating the cutting/polishing process.
Also, due to their natural growth conditions and recovery methods, almost all emeralds contain surface-reaching features. Therefore, the oil may seep into these features even when not intended as a treatment.
For this reason, clarity enhancement - particularly with oil - is a common and widely accepted trade practice for emeralds.
Indications of "minor" clarity enhancement with oil are observed in this particular emerald.

Gemologist's Comments on Clarity:
Due to their natural growth conditions and recovery methods, emeralds commonly have features such as growth tubes, fingerprint inclusions, fissures, and other microscopic inclusions that may affect the transmission of light to a certain extent. For this reason, despite being fully transparent, emeralds may not show luster & scintillation as prominently as other gemstones unless they are exceptionally clean and free of inclusions.
