The features seen in the stone's crown & pavilion are naturally occurring rough, unpolished surface areas. When cutting & polishing blue sapphires, it's a common practice to intentionally keep certain portions of the stone in the natural, rough, unpolished form. This is done to preserve the carat weight and maintain the stone's overall shape/symmetry. Such minor external features are commonly seen in most natural & unheated/untreated blue sapphires.

Velvety Appearance:
This gemstone exhibits an appearance that is classified as "velvety". Such an appearance results from very fine microscopic particles that scatter light, causing the coveted visual effect without negatively affecting the gem's transparency. Gemstones with a velvety appearance have little to no extinction, display a warm glow, and look very pleasing to the eye.
