Gemologist's Comments on Clarity:
The features seen in the stone's pavilion are naturally occurring rough, unpolished surface areas. When cutting & polishing rubies, it's a common practice to intentionally keep certain portions of the stone in the natural, rough, unpolished form, particularly in the pavilion/bottom of the stone. This is done to preserve the carat weight and maintain the stone's overall shape/symmetry. Such minor external features are commonly seen in most natural & unheated/untreated rubies. Since they are located in the pavilion, they don't affect the stone's clarity, face-up appearance, or luster.

Fluorescence
Fluorescence is the visible light some gemstones emit when exposed to invisible ultraviolet (UV) rays. We've described below the intensity and color of the gemstone's fluorescence under long-wave UV light (LWUV).

Intensity:
Faint

Color:
Red

Special Characteristics

Velvety Appearance:
This gemstone exhibits an appearance that is classified as "velvety". Such an appearance results from very fine microscopic particles that scatter light, causing the coveted visual effect without negatively affecting the gem's transparency. Gemstones with a velvety appearance have little to no extinction, display a warm glow, and look very pleasing to the eye. Therefore, velvety appearance is considered a highly sought-after trait in gemstones. The most prominent examples of gemstones coveted for their velvety appearance are the legendary Kashmir sapphires.
